The Bluegrass AgTech Development Corp (BADC) is proud to announce the appointment of Jacob Ball, NBCT, as its new Executive Director. A nationally recognized educator and agricultural leader, Ball brings over 14 years of experience in program development, strategic planning, grant management, and stakeholder engagement—all essential to advancing innovation in Kentucky’s AgTech sector.

“Jacob will help us take our AgTech development program to the next level,” said Mayor Linda Gorton, who is committed to making Lexington a hub for AgTech businesses. “He understands the business of agriculture, and how to encourage and support innovation.”

A native of Nelson County, Kentucky, Ball discovered his passion for agriculture on his family’s small farm and through early involvement in Future Farmers of America (FFA). He pursued this interest at the University of Kentucky, majoring in agricultural education and actively participating in student organizations that shaped his leadership in agricultural innovation.

Throughout his career, Ball has focused on creating and expanding agricultural programs for non-traditional and underrepresented students, most notably founding the agriculture program at Carter G. Woodson Academy. There, he designed a culturally responsive curriculum and built partnerships to provide students with hands-on AgTech experiences, aligning closely with BADC’s mission to support ag-based entrepreneurship and innovation in Kentucky.

“Jacob Ball is a proven leader whose passion for agriculture, education, and innovation makes him an ideal choice to lead the Bluegrass AgTech Development Corp,” said Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture and BADC Board member Jonathan Shell. “His deep Kentucky roots and track record of building forward-thinking programs will help drive the next chapter of growth for AgTech in the Commonwealth.”

Ball’s impact extends beyond the classroom through numerous leadership roles and prestigious accolades. He is a National Board-Certified Teacher, and has received several honors, including the 2023 Milken Educator Award and the ACTE National New Teacher of the Year Award. He has also been recognized as both a National FFA Teacher Ambassador and a National Agriscience Ambassador. In addition to his teaching achievements, Ball currently serves as Treasurer of the University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment Alumni Executive Board.

“My career has been dedicated to fostering growth and innovation in agriculture, particularly through education and community partnerships,” Ball said. “I’m especially drawn to BADC’s commitment to building a vibrant AgTech ecosystem here in Kentucky. This position aligns perfectly with my passion for creating opportunities that empower others. I look forward to leveraging my experience to expand BADC’s impact, and help Kentucky become a national leader in agricultural innovation.”

Ball holds a Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands, and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification from the University of Kentucky.

As Executive Director, Ball will oversee BADC’s statewide operations, lead long-term strategic initiatives, manage the Challenge Grant program, and support emerging AgTech ventures through mentorship, resource development, and collaboration. His appointment represents a bold step forward for BADC’s vision of accelerating Kentucky’s AgTech economy through innovation, inclusion, and leadership.
